CUTEST LITTLE ADOBE: LIVING ROOM
This room was the heart of our little adobe in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, a 90-year-old home we stumbled upon while on tour with Flagship Romance and somehow made an offer on before losing cell service in the desert.
The living room already had magic in its bones: high ceilings, warm natural light, bamboo-covered ceilings, a hand-painted border, and a painted nicho left behind by the home’s previous owner, British artist Peter Bowles. We refinished the original wood floors, replaced the old front door with a black steel one, and slowly filled the space with the things we had gathered over years of traveling.
Most of the room was built through layers: screen prints from independent artists, folk art, New Mexico pieces, family furniture from my Meme, thrifted finds, records, woven textures, and a pair of orange Equipale chairs from Albuquerque that instantly made the whole room feel alive.
It became a space that held so much of what I love about interiors: color, memory, patina, art, and a little bit of beautiful chaos. Nothing too precious. Nothing too perfect. Just a room full of story.
